We're huge fans of open source software here at Systems and we use it throughout our products and services. The huge advantage of open source is quality and cost. The very nature of open source means the source code that makes up the program or system is open to the world. This means thousands of programmers and testers get to oversee the product grow. This is an unparalelled level of quality control not possible in commercial offerings.

The other great advantage of open source technologies is the cost. As open source is built and maintained by hundreds or thousands of voluneteer developers it has no purchasing or license costs. The only cost being in support and installation. Even taking those into account this technology is by far the lowest cost paradigm for businesses to exploit technology.
